Mindfulness has been proven to nurture a desire to care for others. We achieve our mission by engaging a team of dedicated volunteers who positively impact the lives of others, who support youth and their families experiencing chronic homelessness in the Chicagoland area including teaching meditation and self-reflection to staff and residents.

We value transforming lives and raising awareness on both ends of the sharing chain with integrity, compassion and love. Come engage with us as together we promote positive social change through initiatives of mindful societal engagement.

Donate to our efforts to bring mindfulness to school children.

FOOD RESCUE:  Spring Signups Now Being Taken

Our Food Rescue initiative has been a huge success and we have added more dates to the calendar! Our delivery day is Sunday. It takes only a couple hours. You can sign up below!

What is Food Rescue?

We deliver food clearance items from Trader Joe's at 1407 Waukegan Road, Glenview to La Casa Norte at 3507 W. North Avenue, Chicago. We have not missed a delivery since we first began in September 2017. Trader Joe’s kindly offers the stock they would otherwise replace with fresher supplies. Items include fruits, flowers, meats, vegetables, salads, bread, cakes, prepared foods and so on.

Volunteers pick-up the food at 9:00am and deliver it to La Casa Norte and another nearby homeless center. You can do this once, twice, or as many times as you are able! It takes no more than a couple of hours round trip. Bring along a friend or family member as there are many items to be carried, moved and delivered. Detailed instructions are provided to you closer to your delivery date.

New Target Registry for La Casa Norte:

Help to provide essential items to 25 apartments in the new building at La Casa Norte in Chicago and support vulnerable youth and their families experiencing chronic homelessness.  Please click on our registry link below to see! Donations are tax-deductible, although checking with your tax preparer is always advised.  Items are automatically shipped from Target directly to La Casa Norte.

We collect clothing at our address and deliver it monthly to LaCasa Norte.

During the final exam/holiday season care packages are created and distributed to 25 La Casa Norte students currently enrolled in the Youth in College program. Scholarships, housing and support are provided to students facing homelessness ages 18-24 that are enrolled full time at a Chicago college or university. Stay tuned to learn more as the year-end approaches.

We are engaged in varying levels with a number of local non-profits.

Our founder, Ramaa Krishnan’s tireless efforts to support the homeless population in the Chicago area including students in at-risk situations allowed for her in 2018 to be awarded the Gregory Maire Leadership Award from LaCasa Norte.
